According to legend, Prague was founded by Libuse (the youngest daughter of an Ancient Czech ruler, Krok) and Premysl (an ordinary ploughman). They begun the Premyslid Dynasty and built the Prague Castle on the western bank of the Vltava River.
Later on, the city became an important trading seat of Bohemian Kings and Dukes. In the 8th century, Prague flourished under the reign of Charles V, King of Bohemia. The city became the trading pot of merchants in Europe.

The Prague Castle
The Prague Castle was believed to be first built by Prince Borivoj from the Royal Dynasty of Premyslids. Its premises included a castle, three churches and a monastery. Since the Premyslid Dynasty, Prague Castle has undergone a series of reconstruction.
From Romanesque Style, it was rebuilt into Gothic Style, then Neo-Gothic Style. In the late 16th century after a terrible fire, Emperor Rudolph II ordered its reconstruction into Renaissance Style. During his reign, the castle was turned into a national centre for art and science. It has also been a gallery for exquisite collections. In the late 18th century, during the reign of Empress Maria Theresa, Prague Castle was rebuilt into Baroque style, its current appearance.
Since 1918, Prague Castle has been the residence of the President of the Czech Republic.
Vysehrad
Also known as the “castle on the heights”, Vysehrad is the one of the most popular attractions in Prague. It was built in the 9th century by Libuse and her husband Premysl.

Stare Mesto (The Old Town)

Prague Astronomical Clock
Prague Astronomical Clock or Prague Orloj is a medieval astronomical clock found on the southern wall of the Old Town Square in Stare Mesto. It was used as an instrument and device for predicting the positions of the Sun, Moon, the planets and stars.
The Orloj has three main components. One is the astronomical dial which represents the Sun and Moon. Second is the “Walk of the Apostles” which is a clockwork of the figures of the Apostles. Lastly, the Calendar Dial which featured 12 medallions that represents the 12 months of the year.
