Berlin – The Famous German City of the Berlin Wall, Brandenburg Gate and Currywurst
Berlin is the capital city of Germany. It is also the largest city in the country. The city area has the second highest population in the European Union. Its population is around 3.4 million in 2010.

The Thirty Years' War affected the city in the 17th century. Immigration was promoted in 1640. Religious tolerance was also supported. Asylum to French Huguenots was offered in 1685. The French population in the city reached 20% by 1700.
The city became the capital of the Realm of Prussia in 1701. The city also became the center of the Enlightenment in 1740. Napoleon Bonaparte reached the city in 1806. The city later became a province of Brandenburg in 1815.
19th century Berlin was marked with the Industrial revolution. The city became the economic center of the country in this period. The city grew in population and area. Suburbs were later added to the city in 1861. Then in 1871, the city became the capital of the German Empire.
The Nazi Party ruled the city in 1933. Adolf Hitler joined the party in 1919. The Sachsenhausen concentration camp was later formed in 1943. The Battle of Berlin later happened in 1945. The city was divided after the war. Eastern Berlin was formed by the Soviets. Western Berlin was formed by the Western Allies.
Tension increased in the two German states. The Berlin Wall was later constructed in 1961. The Four-Power Agreement was later made in 1971. The Berlin Wall was broken in 1989. The German states were reunified in 1990. Berlin became the German capital with the reunification. Today, the city is the capital of The Federal Republic of Germany.

Brandenburg Gate

The boulevard is famous for its linden trees. Two rows of linden trees stand at the boulevard sides. The boulevard provides space for two carriageways.
The previous Stadtschloss royal palace is found on the eastern boulevard end. The Brandenburg Gate is found on the western side.
